Requirements
A car loan from eny Credit is possible if you
- are resident in Switzerland,
- are employed as an employee,
- hold Swiss citizenship or a residence permit B or C,
- are of legal age.
Financing is not possible for self-employed people and for company vehicles. We name this limit up front so that you do not submit an application that would have to be declined.
1. What is a car loan?
A car loan is a personal loan that you use to buy a vehicle. The amount is paid into your account, you buy the vehicle and repay the loan in fixed monthly instalments.
Up to and including CHF 80’000, such a cash loan is in principle subject to the KKG, unless another statutory exception applies. Loans above CHF 80’000 do not, in principle, fall within its scope. The difference from leasing remains the same: with a loan you buy the vehicle; with leasing you use it under the terms of the leasing agreement.
2. What does a car loan cost in Switzerland?
The annual percentage rate is between 4.90 % and 9.90 % and depends on your creditworthiness. It contains all costs of the loan and is therefore the basis for comparison with other forms of financing.
The rate is fixed for the whole term. For cash loans that are subject to the KKG, the statutory maximum rate has been 10 % since 1 January 2026. The eny maximum rate of 9.90 % applies as a product feature to larger eny loan amounts as well.
3. Car loan or leasing — which suits you better?
| Car loan | Leasing | |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership of the vehicle | you | the lessor |
| Mileage limit | no limit under the loan agreement | governed by the leasing agreement |
| Choice of service garage | not restricted by the loan | governed by the leasing agreement |
| Insurance | not prescribed by the loan | governed by the leasing agreement |
| End of the term | the vehicle stays yours | return or purchase in accordance with the contract |
| Taxes | check your personal tax rules | check your personal tax rules |
| Early termination | possible at any time with KKG loans | depends on the contract |
To stay honest: if you only use a vehicle for two to four years and then want to change again, leasing can be the more suitable form — the monthly burden is lower because you only pay for the period of use. If you want to keep the vehicle, buying it with a loan is usually the clearer calculation.
You will find the full comparison with an example calculation over 60 months under Car loan or leasing in direct comparison. Information about leasing conditions there only with a source, please.
4. Which tax advantages does a car loan have?
Whether and to what extent loan interest and debts can be taken into account for tax purposes depends on the tax year, the applicable rules and your personal situation. Binding information is provided by the competent tax authority or a tax adviser.
5. How do you apply for a car loan?
- Set the amount and the term in the calculator.
- Complete the application form online.
- Receive a provisional credit decision, usually within around 3 minutes.
- Submit your documents (proof of salary, identity document, bank statements).
- After the full assessment, receive the binding decision and, if approved, the contract.
With a KKG contract the withdrawal period is 14 days from receipt of the copy of the contract.
6. Can you replace an existing leasing agreement with a car loan?
Yes, if your leasing agreement permits a buy-out and the assessment of your application is positive. You settle the outstanding balance with the loan and become the owner of the vehicle.
Whether that adds up depends on the outstanding balance, the buy-out costs charged by your lessor and the remaining term. You can do the counter-calculation with the calculator for replacing existing contracts.
7. Who can get a car loan?
Employed people who are resident in Switzerland and hold Swiss citizenship or a permit B or C. What then counts is whether the monthly instalment fits your budget.
eny assesses every application. With KKG loans the credit capacity assessment is required by law. Repayment within 36 months is assumed, even if the contractual term is longer. Details are explained in the guide to credit assessment.
When the financing gets too tight
A vehicle costs more than its instalment: insurance, taxes, servicing, tyres, fuel. Factor these items into your budget before you choose the term.
If the instalment only looks affordable with the maximum term, a cheaper vehicle is the more stable solution. If existing commitments are already weighing on you, an independent debt counselling service (schulden.ch) can help.
Representative example: CHF 35'000 over 60 months
| Annual percentage rate | Monthly instalment | Total interest costs | Total amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4.90 % | CHF 657.18 | CHF 4'431.01 | CHF 39'431.01 |
| 9.90 % | CHF 734.68 | CHF 9'080.61 | CHF 44'080.61 |
Example based on the best credit rating. The rate depends on your credit assessment and is generally higher; only your individual offer is binding.
Frequently asked questions
Is a car loan cheaper than leasing?
That depends on how long you use the vehicle. The leasing instalment is lower because you only pay for the period of use; at the end, however, the vehicle does not belong to you. If you want to keep it, you pay twice: first the instalments, then the residual value. The comparison with figures is set out under Car loan or leasing.
Does the car belong to me immediately with a car loan?
Yes. You buy the vehicle yourself and it remains your property. You can modify it, sell it and use it without conditions.
Do I need fully comprehensive insurance?
With a car loan, fully comprehensive insurance is not required. You decide between fully comprehensive and partial cover, depending on the value of the vehicle.
Is there a mileage limit?
No. As you are the owner, there is no contractual mileage limit and no additional payment for extra kilometres.
Can I deduct the loan interest from my taxes?
That depends on the rules in force in the relevant tax year and on your personal situation. Binding information is provided by the competent tax authority.
How long can I finance a vehicle for?
The term is 6 to 120 months. A longer term lowers the monthly instalment and increases the total loan costs — a sensible term is one that is not significantly longer than the planned period of use.
Can I also finance a used vehicle or a motorbike?
Yes. The loan is not tied to a purpose: you decide which vehicle you buy — new, used, car or motorbike — and from which seller.
Do I have to put up the vehicle as security?
The car loan is a cash loan. The terms that apply to your contract are set out in your personal offer and in the loan agreement.
Can I repay the car loan early?
With a KKG contract, yes, at any time, in full or in part. Other loan amounts are governed by the contractual terms.
Can I buy out an existing leasing agreement?
Yes, provided your leasing agreement permits it and the credit assessment is positive. You pay off the outstanding balance and become the owner of the vehicle.
Granting credit is prohibited if it leads to the over-indebtedness of the consumer (Art. 3 of the Unfair Competition Act, UWG). The German version of this notice is legally binding.
The assessment of your credit capacity is required by law. You can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the provisions of the Swiss Consumer Credit Act (KKG). Right of withdrawal with KKG contracts: 14 days from receipt of the copy of the contract, without giving reasons.
